Golden Isles Junk Removal started in Brunswick.

The idea came up the way plenty of good ideas do around here — two friends sitting at LongHorn Steakhouse in Brunswick, talking it through over dinner.

One of the owners grew up in Brunswick, and his family is from here. So this company has real roots in this community, and we intend to keep earning our place in it.

It started small: a borrowed trailer, a couple of long days, and, to put it plainly, wives who were tired of hearing, “We’ll figure it out.” They weren’t wrong.

People had junk, we hauled it away, and before long it turned into something real.

Somewhere along the way, we noticed how much of what people called “junk” wasn’t junk at all.

Good furniture. Appliances that still worked. Things with plenty of life left in them.

So when furniture and household goods are still in good condition, we look for chances to donate them. Donation centers decide what they’ll accept, and condition matters — but most people would rather see their grandmother’s dining room table go to a family who can use it. We sure would.

That’s when this stopped being a side hustle and started being something we actually cared about.

You won’t find us claiming to be the cheapest or the best around. That’s for our customers to decide, not us. We’d rather treat people right, do good work, charge fair prices and let our reputation speak for itself.

What we’re trying to be better at is pretty simple: answering the phone, communicating clearly, showing up when we say we will, treating people and their property with respect, and doing a little more than what’s expected.

Call and Stephanie usually answers herself. If she can’t, another real person normally does, and a missed call usually gets returned within about 15 minutes.

When we give you a price, we stand behind it. If we underestimated the time or the weight, that’s on us — you shouldn’t pay for our mistake.

Some jobs need special equipment, more planning or a specialist, and we know the difference.

“Yes, ma’am.” “No, sir.” “Please.” “Thank you.” Around here, those aren’t just polite expressions. They’re how we were raised to treat people.

We know when you call a junk removal company, you’re not just hiring someone to haul stuff off.

You’re letting someone into your space.

That matters to us.

Truth is, we didn’t set out to build a company. We set out to solve a problem and do right by people.

Around here, relationships still mean something. A handshake means something. Your word means something.

When somebody tells their neighbor, their Sunday school class or the lady cutting their hair that we took good care of them, that means more to us than just about any advertisement we could buy. And in a place like the Golden Isles, if you do somebody wrong, there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to run into their cousin at the grocery store.

One job says more about the kind of company we’re trying to build than anything we could write here.

A customer of ours was out of town taking care of his mother, who was seriously ill, while also trying to manage a property cleanout back here in the Golden Isles. During the cleanout, there were family heirlooms and personal belongings that clearly meant something. They didn’t belong in the back of a junk removal truck.

So one of our owners took those belongings home and kept them at his own house for safekeeping. Not for a few days. For months. When the customer was able to make arrangements, our owner met him personally and returned everything. There was no charge for it.

We don’t think that was anything extraordinary. It’s what decent people ought to do for one another.

We don’t want to be the biggest junk removal company in America. We want to be the company people around here feel good about calling, feel comfortable having at their home, and are happy to recommend to somebody they care about.

If you need something gone, we’ll take care of it. And we’ll do it the right way.

We’re on the job Monday through Saturday, 7:30 in the morning to 10 at night — with same-day service when we can make it happen. Sundays we start a little later and knock off a little earlier: nine to seven.
