These are regional relationships across our whole service area rather than organizations specific to any one town, and they are not a fixed routing order — where a piece ends up depends on the item, its condition, the location, acceptance, and the circumstances of the job. The part worth understanding is that usable and donatable are not the same thing. A perfectly good sofa can be declined for condition, sanitation, warehouse space, what they already have, what is currently moving, staffing, transport, or simply their policy that week. So this is a list of organizations we actively look to rather than a promise about where your particular item lands. Sometimes the better answer isn’t an organization at all, and something goes straight to a family who needs it.

• Sea Palms

  Sea Palms runs to larger properties and longer driveways, and that changes the job before anything is carried. Where the truck and trailer sit determines the length of every carry that follows, and it also determines whether anybody else on the street can get past. Positioning here is something we think about rather than something we improvise — a crew that parks badly on a quiet residential street and works all afternoon has made the neighborhood's problem, not just the customer's. What Sea Palms shares with the rest of St. Simons is the causeway, so the drive on and off the island is in the estimate up front. • Frederica & St. Simons Plantation

  The Frederica area runs to larger properties, longer driveways, gates, and homes spread further apart than the south end of the island. Practically that means three things get settled before we arrive: how far the item actually is from wherever the trailer can sit, how we get through the gate, and where the equipment can be positioned without being in anybody's way for the length of the job. Where a community gate is involved, we coordinate access with the homeowner, manager or caretaker beforehand. We plan around what the property calls for rather than what would be quickest.

• East Beach

  East Beach is the part of the island where getting the equipment placed is sometimes genuinely harder than moving the item. Beach-area homes, tighter streets, and a heavy share of vacation properties mean parking and access have to be worked out before the first thing gets carried — and doing that without creating a traffic problem for everybody else on the block is part of the job rather than an afterthought. • King & Prince

  This end of the island sits next to the Village and the Pier, and in the busy stretches of the year congestion and parking are the whole problem. There is rarely a good place to leave a truck for long, and the right approach is simply to get in, work efficiently, and get out — not to occupy a block all afternoon because it happens to be convenient. Narrow streets, high visibility, and real foot traffic in summer all argue for the same thing.   Hampton Point is a gated community, so before the visit we coordinate access with the homeowner, property manager or caretaker — that part is our job, not yours.
