On rural McIntosh County land, pallets don’t stay a tidy stack for long. They get leaned against a barn, turned into a firewood rack, or end up half buried in the debris pile at the back of the lot with grass growing up through the slats. A pile like that comes apart one pallet at a time, and a soaked one is far heavier than it looks.

It could be a few dozen behind a home in Jones or a stack behind a shop a little way off Highway 17. For a big one, we bring equipment sized to the pile — the truck, a dump trailer or a dumpster.
