Where to take it yourself in Glynn County, and when to call us.
The county runs three drop-off centres and a kerbside bulk programme. Here is what each one takes, what it costs, and where they draw the line.
County drop-off centres
Three places the county will take it.
Brunswick — Young Lane drop-off centre

Brunswick — Habersham Street drop-off centre

St. Simons Island drop-off centre

All waste types except curbside recycling. Yard debris limited to 3 inches in diameter and 4 feet long.
What they accept
Yard debris, white goods, bulky items, metal, construction debris, glass bottles and jars.
What they will not take
Paint, tires, hazardous materials, car batteries, dead animals, curbside recycling.
Kerbside bulk pickup
The county will also come to you, twice a year.
Each residential property is eligible for two bulky item pickups and two white goods pickups per year.
Bulk items the county lists include lawnmowers, sofas, swing sets, bicycles without tires, rolls of carpet, bookshelves and tables. White goods means refrigerators and freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, stoves and water heaters.
Excluded: commercial appliances, liquids, paint, oil, boats, vehicles, vehicle batteries, dead animals, asbestos, yard trimmings, insecticides and pesticides, hazardous materials, household garbage, tires, and construction or demolition debris.
Piles are limited to 6 feet by 6 feet by 6 feet, and the service is not available to commercial businesses. Schedule on 912-554-7111.
By material
The awkward ones.
Tires
The county drop-off centres do not take tires, so a trip there with a set in the truck is a wasted trip. Tires go to a recycler that charges per tire, and rims-on tires cost more than rims-off because the recycler has to dismount them.
What we do with themElectronics and computers
Televisions, monitors, computers and printers are not household garbage. CRT televisions and rear-projection sets cost more to recycle than a flat screen of the same size because of the leaded glass. We route electronics to electronics recyclers rather than the landfill.
What we do with themMattresses
Mattresses are bulky, hard to compact, and many transfer stations charge per mattress. The county's kerbside bulk programme will take one as a bulky item within your two free pickups a year, if you can wait for the schedule.
What we do with themRefrigerators and anything with refrigerant
Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers carry refrigerant that has to be recovered by someone qualified before the unit is scrapped. The county lists refrigerators and freezers as white goods for its kerbside programme.
What we do with themPaint
Paint is on the county's prohibited list at the drop-off centres and excluded from the kerbside bulk programme. Liquid paint is not something we haul either — it needs a household hazardous waste route.
Scrap metal
Metal is accepted at the county drop-off centres. If you have a worthwhile volume of clean metal, a scrap yard may pay you for it rather than charge you — which is the one category where hauling it yourself can be worth the trip.

When it’s easier to call us
A drop-off centre is a good answer when you have a truck, a free morning, and a load they will actually accept. It stops being the easy answer when the thing is heavy, awkward, upstairs, or on the refused list — tires and paint among them. Truck-load pricing starts at $95–$150 for a 1/8 truck, which is a single couch or a few bags, and we confirm the tier from your photos before anything is loaded.
