Scrap metal removal across the Golden Isles.
Old fencing, broken lawn mowers, defunct exercise equipment, post-storm twisted metal. We sort the loads, route to recyclers, and offset some of your disposal cost from what they pay us by weight.
Scrap metal is one of those categories where customers often think “I’ll take it to the recycler myself” — and then don’t, for a year, sometimes longer. The pile in the corner of the garage grows. Old fencing from the back yard, the broken push mower, the defunct exercise equipment, an empty water heater, a steel cabinet that came out during a remodel. We make the trip. We sort the loads. The aluminum goes to one recycler, the steel to another, and we offset some of the cost from what the recyclers pay us by weight. Most customers don’t know that’s even an option.
The most common call is the garage cleanout where metal items have accumulated over years. Estate cleanouts produce metal in volume — basements and garages of long-time residents are often the highest-density metal scrap on the property. Property cleanouts after construction projects (framing scraps, leftover steel studs, copper pipe cutoffs). Hobbyist cleanups where customers gathered scrap intending to make the recycler trip themselves. Hurricane and storm cleanups produce twisted metal in volume — bent fence sections, water-damaged appliances, mangled outdoor equipment.
Operationally, scrap metal is generally lighter weight per volume than other categories — mostly hollow steel, aluminum, copper wire, brass fittings rather than dense items. Sorting matters for recycler routing and pricing. Ferrous metals (steel, iron) go to one recycler at one price; non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper, brass, stainless) go to another recycler at higher per-pound rates. Copper specifically — copper pipe, copper wire, copper bus bars — is the highest-value scrap and we keep it separated during the load.
Items with hazardous components don’t move as scrap metal. Refrigerators with refrigerant route through certified appliance recyclers (refrigerant recovery comes first). Gas tanks, oil drums, and fuel containers don’t go in the scrap load — those need specialty disposal. Pure scrap (clean steel cabinets, aluminum extrusions, copper wire, brass plumbing fittings) is the fastest disposal at the cleanest pricing.
What we haul
Specifically, what we take for scrap metal removal.
- Steel fencing, chain-link, and barbed wire (clean wire, not contaminated)
- Aluminum siding and aluminum extrusions
- Copper wire (residential gauge through service-entry cable)
- Copper pipe and copper plumbing fittings
- Brass plumbing fixtures and brass hardware
- Steel tool boxes, steel cabinets, and steel shelving
- Cast-iron items (radiators, sinks, bathtubs without enamel concerns)
- Old empty water heaters (after disposal of remaining water)
- Damaged metal lawn equipment (mowers without engines, broken trimmers)
- Construction-project metal (framing scraps, leftover studs, ductwork)
- Storm-damaged twisted metal (fence sections, signs, awnings)
- Defunct steel-frame furniture (office chairs, desks, file cabinets)
How we work
How we actually handle it.
Scrap loading is the routine work — gloves on, gloves stay on. Pure scrap (clean steel, aluminum extrusions, copper wire) loads quickly because the items aren’t wedged or tangled. Garage-corner accumulations are slower because the scrap pile usually has non-scrap items mixed in (broken plastic items, fabric, rotting wood); we sort during loading and route the non-scrap items to landfill while the metal goes to recycling.
Sorting happens during loading, not after. Ferrous metal goes on one side of the truck bed, non-ferrous on the other. Copper — the highest-value scrap — gets separated into its own load section because the recycler price is high enough that contamination by mixed metals reduces the per-pound payment.
The recycler trip happens after the customer’s pickup. We weigh in at the recycler scale, the recycler grades the load (clean ferrous, mixed ferrous, aluminum, copper, brass), and the per-load payment shows up at the back end of the day’s work. The payment offsets a portion of the customer’s disposal cost.
Pricing
How pricing works.
Scrap metal pricing scales with volume and the metal mix. Clean copper-heavy loads price the lightest because the recycler payment offsets significant disposal cost. Mixed ferrous loads (mostly steel with some aluminum) price middle. Heavy mixed loads with lots of contamination (rotting wood mixed in, plastic items, fabric) price closer to standard junk-removal rates because the contamination reduces the recycler payment.
We don’t guarantee a specific offset amount on the estimate. Recycler prices fluctuate by week, and the customer-facing number reflects the standard disposal cost minus a typical recycler-payment offset. If the load happens to weigh heavier on the high-value metals (copper especially), the offset is more; if lighter, less. We name the framework on the call.
Call us with the load description — what kind of metal, how much, where it is in the property — and we’ll walk through the number.

The honest exceptions
What we won’t take — for this item.
A short, honest list of edge cases we either won’t take or want to discuss before we show up. When in doubt, call us — we’ll walk through it before scheduling.
- Refrigerators, freezers, or AC units containing refrigerant — those route through certified appliance recyclers, not scrap (separate scope)
- Gas tanks, propane tanks, oil drums, or fuel containers (live or recently emptied) — specialty disposal required
- Lead-lined or radioactive materials — call us first to plan the protocol
- Vehicles, vehicle frames, or vehicle engine blocks — those need a salvage yard, not a junk-removal crew
- Mercury-containing devices (older thermostats, mercury switches) — specialty hazardous-waste route
