Part of our Furniture Removal service
A box spring is the part of the bed people forget about until it’s time to move it. A mattress will roll, bend, and squeeze through a doorway that’s an inch too narrow. A box spring won’t. It’s a rigid wood-and-steel frame wrapped in fabric, built to hold its shape under a mattress — and that same rigidity is exactly what makes it a job. It comes out the way it went in, or it doesn’t come out at all.
That’s the whole puzzle on most of these calls. The box spring went up the stairs years ago when the hallway had a different layout, or it was carried in before a banister got added, or it’s a queen that has to make a square turn at the top of a flight that doesn’t leave room to turn it. We size up the path before we put hands on it, because a box spring you can’t pivot is a box spring you’re going to be wrestling.
Almost nobody calls about a box spring alone. It comes out alongside the mattress nearly every time — a bed gets replaced, the whole setup leaves together. We treat it as one job from the start so you’re not paying for two trips to clear one bed.
What we haul
Specifically, what we take for box spring disposal.
- Standard box springs (king, queen, full, twin)
- Split and twin box springs for king and adjustable setups
- Low-profile box springs
- Mattress foundations and platform foundations
- Bunkie boards and slatted bases
- Box springs paired with the mattress and frame they sit under
How we work
How we actually handle it.
The defining feature of a box spring is that it doesn’t give. Where a mattress flexes around a tight corner, the box spring holds square, so the job is about angles and clearance rather than muscle. We measure the doorway, the stairwell turn, and the landing before we commit to a route — and when a rigid queen genuinely won’t make the turn at the top of a stair, we say so on site and talk through the options instead of forcing it and gouging the wall.
A box spring almost always travels with the mattress, and we plan around that. We carry the mattress out first since it folds and forgives, then bring the rigid piece down the cleared path. Headboard, frame, and rails come with it when you want the whole bed gone. The point is to clear the room in one pass, not to make a second trip for the part that wouldn’t bend.
Pricing
How pricing works.
Box spring pricing tracks size and access more than anything else. A low-profile twin on a ground floor is the easiest version of this job; a rigid king that has to come down a tight, turning stairwell is the hardest, because the frame can’t be coaxed around the corner. We look at where it is and how it has to come out before we quote it.
Most of the time the box spring isn’t a line of its own — it’s loaded with the mattress and frame as one bed. Combining it with the mattress for a single trip is how this almost always works, and we price the whole setup as the one load it really is. Call us with what’s leaving the room and we’ll give you a real number.
