Can you take everything out of the game room?

Yes — the tables, the machines and the odds and ends around them. Three kinds of things live in this group, and each one leaves a different way.

Pool tables, the real slate kind, are the heavy ones. Game tables — ping pong, foosball, air hockey, table shuffleboard, slot car tracks and train layout tables — are mostly big rather than heavy. And the coin-op side: upright and cocktail arcade cabinets, pinball machines, jukeboxes, skee-ball lanes, electronic dartboard cabinets, claw machines and photo booths, tall and top-heavy with glass and electronics in them.

People call when they want the room back, when they’re moving and the table isn’t coming, when an estate is being settled, or when a bar, arcade or shop is closing up. Working or not makes no difference to whether it can go.

How tables and machines come out of a bonus room

Around here a game room is usually upstairs — a bonus room over the garage, a converted attic, a second-floor addition — rather than a basement. Everything up there went up in pieces or through the door on a dolly, and that’s how it comes back down. Photos of the piece and the stairs, landing and doors between it and the truck are what we plan from.

A slate pool table is taken down in the room: felt off, rails off, the slate panels separated, then the frame. Each panel gets the hands it needs, with a spotter below on the stairs, and the crew is sized to the table in front of us. Game tables come apart where they sit too — a ping pong table splits into its halves, a foosball table gives up its rods and legs, air hockey legs come off. Table shuffleboard is the exception; the hardwood playfield is usually one piece, so it’s carried whole on a path planned first.

Machines stay upright. An arcade cabinet or jukebox is strapped standing to a dolly with blankets on the glass and someone on the low side. On a pinball machine the legs usually come off and the backbox usually folds down. Skee-ball lanes come apart into sections. Blankets go on corners, a door comes off its hinges if the doorway needs it, and nothing heavy gets dragged across the floor.

Afterward, monitors, boards and wiring go to the appropriate electronics recycling or disposal channel, steel frames and foosball rods can go to scrap recycling, often at SA Recycling in Brunswick, and a table or machine that still plays may be worth offering to an organization such as the Boys & Girls Club or the Salvation Army. They decide what they can use, and condition matters. For a business that’s closing, the person booking needs the authority to dispose of the machines; we’ll sort that out with you when we quote.

What changes the price

Game tables and arcade machines price on the load tiers by the space they take and the carry: one cabinet or ping pong table on the ground floor is the light end, while a pinball machine down a flight of stairs or a row of machines out of a business takes more. Slate pool tables are quoted on their own rather than by tier, because the table’s size, the slate, the take-down and the stairs decide that job. Send photos of everything in the room and it’s quoted together, with the stairs in the number before anything starts. The minimum for any pickup is $95.

Firm price from your photos, confirmed before anything is loaded. The minimum for any pickup is $95.
