A home hospital bed comes apart where it stands: lowered, unplugged, then the mattress, the deck, the frame and the motor assembly go out one piece at a time instead of wrestling the whole bed through a bedroom door. A lift chair leaves with its motor in it; on most, the back lifts off the base, which makes a staircase much easier. Scooters and power chairs are heavy for their size, so we plan that carry from your photos.

We work at the family’s pace. If one room needs to wait for another day, it waits. Anything in the room that looks personal or important gets brought to you before it goes anywhere — the crew doesn’t make that call.

Equipment with real use left in it may help someone else, and where that’s realistic we try to find it a second life. The organization receiving it decides what it accepts, and condition matters. Steel bed frames are usually scrapped at SA Recycling in Brunswick, and the rest is recycled or disposed of as the material allows.
