You don’t have to pull anything apart before we get there, and the mattress stays where it is. On most hide-a-beds it’s fixed to the steel deck and isn’t meant to come out, so we carry the sleeper whole and break it down at the truck only if the door demands it.

Getting a sleeper out on the island
In a managed rental, a sleeper usually comes up at turnover: the fold-out has given out, the cushions are worn through, or the owner is refreshing the living room before guests arrive. Property managers know what turnover complete looks like, so we fit the carry into the guest window and leave the room ready for the new piece.
Whether it sits in a beach rental near North Beach or one of the older homes on Stable Road, the carry is where the work is. The folded frame shifts as the piece tilts, so the fold-out gets strapped closed before anyone lifts, and we plan each landing and doorway ahead of time.
Older houses tend to have narrower doors and tighter turns than the furniture that ended up inside them. When a sleeper won’t clear a doorway upright, we bring it out sideways, and we talk through anything beyond that before we start.
Once it’s out, the sleeper leaves the island in our truck. It doesn’t get parked by a dumpster or left at the road for somebody else to deal with.

What changes the price
The internal steel frame is why a sleeper always costs more than a regular couch that looks the same from across the room. After that it’s the carry, meaning stairs, landings and the distance to the truck, plus the round trip across the bridge, which is counted before we ever arrive.
Firm price from your photos, confirmed before anything is loaded. The minimum for any pickup is $95. We don’t charge extra for same-day pickup when we have an open time slot.

Where a sleeper goes
We figure out the right destination once we’ve seen it. Most sleepers end up in disposal rather than donation, because a pull-out couch that’s been slept on for years rarely clears the standards organizations hold upholstered furniture to.
When one is close to new, it may be offered to an organization we work with, and they decide whether to take it.
Either way, it goes back across the bridge with the rest of the load, and nothing from the job stays on the island.
