Pricing

How pricing works.

What vintage electronics removal costs here. We price by the tier your items fill, starting at $95–$150 for a 1/8 truck; a single item is quoted from a photo so we can confirm the tier before anything is loaded. The number you agree to is the number you pay, and it includes carry-out, the disposal fee and cleanup.

A radio or two and a box of phones is a small load. A whole bench, a rack of broadcast gear and the shelves of parts behind it fill more of the truck, and anything coming down from an attic or up from an outbuilding takes longer. Electronics carry their own disposal cost, and it shows up in the number rather than as a surprise. The minimum for any pickup is $95.

Yes, we take vintage electronics — one old radio or a whole workbench. This is the gear from somebody’s hobby or somebody’s trade: the ham or shortwave station in the spare room, the CB base station, the tube tester and oscilloscopes and signal generators on a TV repairman’s bench, a two-way radio base from a business, an intercom or PA system pulled out of a church or a school, an old telephone switchboard, a teletype, a box of rotary phones.

Most of it was built between the 1950s and the 1980s, and it was built heavy. Steel chassis, big power transformers, wood or metal cabinets, and a lot packed into a small box. A shortwave receiver that looks like a breadbox can be a real two-hand lift, and a full equipment rack or a broadcast console is furniture-heavy with nothing made to hold onto.

It also tends to come in a set, usually because the person who used it isn’t using it anymore. An estate, a downsizing move, or an attic or garage where it’s been sitting since the shop closed. Here on the coast, the garage and the attic are hard on it — humidity gets into the cabinets and rusts the chassis — so a lot of what we’re asked to take hasn’t worked in years.

How we work

Vintage Electronics in Brunswick Dens, Garages and Sheds

Send a few photos of the gear and tell us where it is — upstairs den, attic, garage, an outbuilding — and what the way out looks like. The small pieces go in boxes and bins. The heavy ones are carried on a dolly or by two people with blankets on the corners, and a tall rack comes down empty. Shelving full of parts and the workbench itself can go on the same trip.

It’s worth a minute before you pay to have it hauled: some of this equipment has collectors. Old ham radio gear, tube testers and certain test equipment sometimes mean something to the right person, even when they don’t work. If you think a piece might, check first. If you decide it’s all going, we’ll take it, and the price we quoted doesn’t change either way.

Where it goes depends on what it is and its shape. The electronics go to the appropriate electronics recycling or disposal channel. Steel cabinets, racks and chassis often go to scrap recycling, such as SA Recycling in Brunswick. A working piece in good condition may find a second home through a donation organization we work with, if they’ll take it — they decide, and condition matters.

Old radio gear and test benches end up in the places people kept their hobbies. A spare room in an older house in New Town with the shortwave set by the window. A workshop or a shed on a rural property out around Fancy Bluff, where the humidity off the water has been working on the cabinets for years. The carry is different in each one — a narrow hall and a front step in town, a long walk across the yard out there — and a couple of photos show it. Send them, and we’ll give you a firm price wherever the gear is in Brunswick.
