Most of our work here runs through property managers, and beds fit right into it: a manager replacing beds unit by unit, or a vacation home getting new bedroom furniture before the busy months. The old ones have to be out inside a guest window, and those windows hold fairly steady from spring through fall.

By the time we pull up, we already know how many beds are coming down, what kind they are, and which mattresses go with them. The rooms are clear and ready for the delivery when we leave.

A beach house on the north end near North Beach, or a rental farther down toward Great Dunes, gets planned the same way. The bedrooms, the stairs and the walk to the truck come from the photos, and the load leaves the island with us when we go.

Two bridge crossings come with the job out here, and we plan for that round trip rather than rushing the carry.

Customers don’t need to figure out which bolts hold which rails. We bring sockets and the right wrench for the bolt heads, and a king frame almost always comes apart because it’s too wide for a standard interior doorway.

A metal frame folds and rides flat, the quickest of the lot. A storage bed takes longer because of the drawers, and a lone headboard or footboard is a quick job.

We figure out the right destination piece by piece. Metal frames are usually recycled as scrap, often at SA Recycling in Brunswick.

Solid wood frames and headboards in good shape may be offered to organizations we work with. They decide what they accept, and condition matters.

For mattresses going out with the beds, we look for responsible reuse, recycling and disposal options when they’re practical and available. Whatever the destination, it crosses the bridge with us first.
