The short version

Moving & Move-Out Cleanouts at a glance.

What it is
Clearing everything that is not going to the new house -- before the movers arrive to lighten the load, or after they leave to empty what is left.
What’s included
  • Furniture, mattresses and appliances not making the move
  • Garage, attic and shed contents
  • Whatever the movers left behind
  • Carry-out from any room, nothing moved to the curb first
  • Usable items offered to local organizations, subject to their acceptance
How pricing works
What is not making the move is priced by the space it takes on the truck, or as one project when it is the whole house. Photos get a firm number, agreed before loading starts.

Every move has a pile. The sofa that won’t fit the new living room. The second refrigerator in the garage. The bunk beds the kids outgrew, the treadmill that became a coat rack, the boxes in the attic nobody has opened since the last move. None of it is going to the new house, and all of it has to leave the old one.

It shows up at two points. Before the move, when you’re trying to shrink the load so the movers have less to pack and less to charge for. And after, when the truck has pulled away and the house still has a garage full of things that were never on the list, a mattress nobody wanted and a pile by the back door you meant to deal with.

Either way the old house has a deadline — a closing, a lease end, a buyer’s walkthrough or just the day you hand over the keys. We clear what isn’t coming with you so that deadline isn’t a problem.

Who calls us

Who we run this work for.

Before the movers or after. Clearing first means the movers only touch what’s actually going, and a long-distance mover charges by weight, so every piece we take is a piece you aren’t paying to ship. Clearing after is simpler if you’re still deciding — you take what you want, and we take everything that’s left.

What’s going with you. Just tell us, or point to it when we arrive, and the crew works around it. On a busy day, keeping the moving pile in one room stops the two piles from getting mixed up.

How much to try to sell. A good dining set or a working washer might be worth a listing. If it hasn’t sold by moving week, it’s usually time to stop waiting on it.

Whether anyone will be there. If you’ve already moved, that’s fine. Family, a neighbor or an agent can let us in, or a lockbox works.

How we do it

Moving Out From Around Brunswick

Send us a few photos and tell us what you need removed — the rooms, the garage, the attic, the shed and anything outside. We send back a firm price, and it’s confirmed with you before anything is loaded.

The crew carries it out from wherever it is. Upstairs, the back of the closet, the attic, the far corner of the garage — nothing has to be dragged to the driveway first. Equipment is sized to the job: a truck for a room or two, dump trailers when it’s the whole house.

Things that still have life in them get a real look. Household goods in decent shape go to organizations we work with when they can use them — Goodwill, the Boys & Girls Club, Habitat ReStore and HART among them. Whether they take a given piece is their call. An appliance that still has useful life is sometimes repaired and given to a family that needs one, though that’s never promised for a particular unit. Dead refrigerators and freezers go through the appropriate appliance and refrigerant recycling or disposal channel, often SA Recycling in Brunswick, which usually takes the scrap metal too.

Same-day pickup is often available in Brunswick, St. Simons Island and the Golden Isles — call or text for the next available opening. Camden County and inland areas are scheduled, usually within the week. We don’t charge extra for same-day pickup when we have an open time slot, which helps when moving week runs short.

Moving out of an apartment off the Glynco Parkway corridor or a house along the Altama Avenue corridor tends to leave the same pile: the sofa that won’t fit the new place, a bed frame, the bookcase nobody wants to carry down the stairs again. Clearing it before the movers means a long-distance mover only weighs what’s actually going. Clearing it after means the keys go back with the place empty. Either way, send a photo of what’s staying behind and your move-out date, and the crew carries it down and out from wherever it sits. Wherever you’re moving from around Brunswick, you get a firm price before anything is loaded.

What’s in scope

What we haul.

What we haul in this category

  • Furniture that won’t fit the new place — sofas, beds, dressers, dining sets, desks
  • Mattresses and box springs
  • Second refrigerators, freezers, washers and dryers
  • Exercise equipment, bunk beds, cribs and outgrown kids’ furniture
  • Garage, attic and shed contents
  • Boxes, bags and closet leftovers
  • Patio furniture, grills and yard items
  • Whatever the movers left behind

Hazardous materials — chemicals, solvents, fuel, asbestos-suspect material and the like — need their own route, and we’ll tell you where they go.

Pricing

How pricing works on these jobs.

Move-out jobs are priced on what’s actually leaving. A few pieces and some boxes are priced by how much of the truck they fill. A whole house that isn’t coming along — every room, the garage and the shed — is quoted as one project.

Stairs, attics and long carries add time and are built into the price up front rather than added later. You get a firm price before anything is loaded. The minimum for any pickup is $95.

If you clear before the movers come, it’s worth comparing our price against what the mover would charge to pack and haul the same pieces. On a long move, it can come out cheaper to leave them behind.

Clearing before the movers come

The best time to get rid of something is before somebody packs it.

If we come a few days ahead of the movers, the house is down to only what’s going. The packers work faster, the truck is smaller, and nobody is unpacking a box at the new place only to find the thing they meant to throw away. Tell us the moving date and we’ll schedule ahead of it.

It also makes the house easier to live in during the last week. A garage you can walk through and a spare room that isn’t stacked with leftovers make the final push less of a scramble.

After the truck pulls away

Some moves don’t go to plan. The movers run out of room, refuse a piece, or leave the garage for “later.” You’re already living in the new place, and the old one still has a pile in it.

That’s an easy job for us. Send photos of what’s left, tell us who can let us in, and we’ll clear it. If you’re already out of town, the photos and the price come to your phone, and you can approve it from wherever you are.

If the old house is being sold and you’re up against a closing date, our page on home sale cleanouts covers that timeline.
