These machines tend to outlast their use. The kids grew up, a newer one replaced it, it never sold, or an estate is being settled. Sometimes an HOA or code letter finally sets a date. Whatever the reason, it’s usually been sitting a while — flat tires, a rusted chain, a seized engine, no keys, parts missing where someone started taking it apart.

None of that gets in the way. What we want to know is what shape it’s in and where it is.

Send two kinds of photos: the machine itself, especially the tires, and the way to it — the barn door, the field, the gap behind the shed. That’s what we price from, and the firm price is confirmed before anything is loaded.

If it rolls, it goes up the ramps. If the wheels are locked or the tires are gone, we drag or winch it onto the truck instead. A side-by-side is a bigger, heavier version of the same job; a scooter or an e-bike is a much lighter carry. Machines parked under a tarp, in tall grass or at the edge of the woods sometimes need a path opened on our end first, and we plan that from the pictures rather than finding out on the day.

Gas in the tank or a battery still on it — just mention it when you send photos. If anything special is needed, we’ll sort it out with you when we quote.

A small vehicle is often one piece of a bigger clear-out — the shed, the barn, the back of the yard — and it goes in the same visit. Afterward, the frame, engine and wheels are mostly metal and usually go to scrap, often at SA Recycling in Brunswick. Whatever else comes with it is recycled or disposed of appropriately.

What moves the price most is whether it rolls and how far it sits from where the truck can park. A running quad in an open garage is the easy end. A seized side-by-side at the back of a soft field is the heavy end, because of the dragging, the winching and the time it takes. After that it’s how much of the truck the load fills — one dirt bike is a small slice, three machines and a shed full of parts is more — and what the pieces need for disposal.
